Cause analysis and improvement measures for unqualified flaw detection of quenched and tempered Q345R vessel steel plate

During the production of a quenched and tempered high strength Q345R vessel steel plate, a large number of unqualified flaw detection occurred. The unqualified areas were sampled. The microstructure of the unqualified steel plate was observed and analyzed by means of metallographic examination and scanning electron microscope. The defects such as inclusions and central cracks were the main causes of the unqualified flaw detection. The analysis shows that the original crack of billet leads to the post rolling crack in the steel plate, and the calcium aluminate inclusions do not float up sufficiently in the process of molten steel refining, resulting in large-size inclusions in the steel plate. The improvement measures to improve the purity of molten steel and the internal quality of billet are put forward. After the improvement, the qualified rate of steel plate flaw detection is increased by 12%, and the effect is good.

Due to the harsh application environment, it is necessary to have great tolerance to temperature and pressure. In the production process, the requirements for the organization and performance of the steel plate are very high, and the requirements for flaw detection are very strict. The flaw detection level is required to be class I flaw detection.
