Analysis of material factors when selecting spring materials

Plate springs generally use flat steels such as 55SiMnVB, 55SiMnMoV, 55Si2Mn, 60Si2MnA, 60CrMnB, and 60CrMn.

For small and medium-sized springs, especially spiral tension springs, priority should be given to the selection of reinforced steel wires, lead bath isothermal cold drawn steel wires, and oil quenched and tempered steel wires. Its strength and surface quality are higher than ordinary quenched and tempered steel wire, and its fatigue performance is better than ordinary quenched and tempered steel wire. It has good processability, simple processing, and stable quality. For large and medium-sized springs, cold drawn or cold drawn polished steel should be used to achieve high load accuracy and stress; Hot rolled steel should be used for low load accuracy and stress.

Electric springs using the spring itself as a conductor or springs operating under variable humidity conditions, such as water (including seawater) and steam environments, typically use copper and alloy steel.

Springs that work in contact with other corrosive media such as acid usually use corrosion resistant materials such as stainless steel, acid resistant steel, or nickel alloy. Springs used under general environmental conditions shall be made of ordinary spring steel, and the spring surface shall be coated with antirust coating or electroplated (zinc, cadmium, copper) to prevent corrosion.

In order to ensure that the accuracy of springs used in weighing instruments is not affected by temperature changes, constant elastic alloys with the smallest changes in elastic modulus and expansion coefficient are generally used.

Special purpose springs can be made of reinforced plastic, requiring light weight, insulation, anti-collision, anti-corrosion, etc. Shockproof rubber can also be used to manufacture various types of rubber springs.
